About the event

World Diabetes Day is a globally recognized observance held on November 14th each year. It was established by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise awareness about diabetes, its impact on individuals and communities, and to advocate for better care and prevention.

Diabetes is a chronic medical condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It occurs when the body is unable to regulate blood sugar levels effectively. World Diabetes Day serves as a platform to educate, inform, and mobilize people to take action against this growing global health challenge.

Key Pillars for an Awareness Session on World Diabetes Day:

  1. Understanding Diabetes: Provide an overview of what diabetes is, including the different types (Type 1, Type 2, and gestational diabetes). Explain the role of insulin and the body's inability to use it properly in diabetes.
  2. Diabetes Statistics: Share current global and local diabetes statistics to highlight the prevalence and the need for awareness and prevention.
  3. Risk Factors: Discuss the risk factors associated with diabetes, such as genetics, lifestyle, and obesity. Emphasize the importance of early detection.
  4. Prevention and Management: Offer practical tips on how to prevent and manage diabetes through a healthy lifestyle, including diet, exercise, and regular check-ups.
  5. Complications and Impact: Address the potential complications of diabetes, including cardiovascular disease, kidney problems, and vision issues. Discuss the socio-economic and emotional impact of diabetes on individuals and their families.
  6. The Role of Awareness: Explain the importance of raising awareness about diabetes and the need for early diagnosis and intervention. Emphasize the role of awareness campaigns in reducing the stigma associated with diabetes.
  7. Call to Action: Inspire the audience to take action by promoting a healthy lifestyle, supporting diabetes research, and participating in local initiatives.

The session will be conducted by Dr.MD Dema Yosef Jadaan- Public Health
